Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

It is not necessary to spend a fortune to keep your pet healthy and happy. A designer collar or expensive toys do not impress animals Gourmet food is often not as healthy for your pet as the plain, dry variety that scientists formulate to suit your pet’s needs Here are a few tips to help you enjoy being a pet owner while adhering to a limited budget.

Provide your Pet with an Inexpensive Toy Dogs love to play fetch. Use an old second-hand tennis ball to play fetch with your dog and you will keep him amused for hours. Playing fetch is an excellent form of exercise for your dog. He will stay fit and healthy when he has plenty of exercise. A tennis ball is inexpensive to purchase and you will save plenty of money on veterinary fees because you will not have an overweight and unhealthy dog.

Cats will happily bat a table-tennis ball, a rolled up piece of aluminium foil, or a small home-made material ball around the house. House cats need stimulation to keep them in top condition. Some cat breeds, such as the Siamese will play fetch with you.

Somewhere Comfortable to Sleep
Every animal needs a comfortable bed. If the pet sleeps outside, it is important to provide him with weather-proof sleeping quarters. A commercially made kennel is a good investment. It is not necessary to choose the most expensive kennel in the pet shop. The kennel should be large enough for your dog to sleep in when he reaches his full growth. It is best to spend a little extra now to ensure you purchase a well made kennel that your pet will be able to use for the rest of his life. It is far less expensive to regularly change the bedding in your pet’s kennel then to purchase a kennel that your pet will outgrow.

A cat or a dog that sleeps inside your home should also have his own bed. Inside pets do not require elaborate bedding. An old baby1 s blanket placed in a basket or on a sofa is fine for your inside pet to sleep on. Alternatively, pet shops supply inexpensive dog and cat beds for you to purchase. Be sure that the bed or bedding is easy to launder, so you can keep it in good condition for a long time.
