Social Training of a Dog

While training your dog yourself or getting the services of an expert, a major thing which always needs to be taken special care of is dog behavior. You will have to make sure that your dog is behaving well when around the others. This is commonly termed as socialization of the dog. You will have to pay very special attention to this particular part of dog training. If your dog is not social, you may face problems with your favorite pet.

The dog socialization involves many things. Here is an overview of those things.

* Your dog must behave well when surrounded by strangers. If this aspect is not taken care of while training the dog, you will face problems when ever there is gathering at your place. You will even face more problems while taking the dog outside.
* Another aspect is the behavior of the dog when he faces someone new. If the dog is not comfortable around the people and does not behave well when meeting the strangers, you will be in a mess.
* Dog also needs to be friendly at the new places. If your dog is not friendly at the new places, then you will really feel difficult to take him outside with you. Everyone wants to take the pet with when going for a walk or for shopping. If the dog is not well trained, he will misbehave and will make the situation bad for you.
* The next thing that you need to watch your dog for involves the other pets. It is natural that the animals make sounds when there are other animals around. Dogs are no exception and they do bark upon seeing certain animals. If your dog is not well trained, he will bark excessively in these situations and will make the things difficult for you. Make sure that you are teaching your dog to be friendly and stay calm when there are other animals around.

While working on the social training of the dog, keep one thing in mind; the dogs learn most of the social behavior in their early years. If they have not been taught well to socialize, they will hardly ever change. So make sure that you are talking good care of your pet in his early years and are making him comfortable when surrounded by people.

The best way to improve social attitude of your dog is to become friendly with him and reward him for his good behavior. You will also have to make sure that you are sharing things with the dog and are not letting him stay alone for longer periods of time. The puppy will love your company and will be more than happy to behave well.

Making Your Dog Obedient

When the people purchase a dog to keep him as a pet, some of the things take the top priority. One of them is to make the pet obedient. If the pet is not obedient, then the relationship between the pet and the master would not be that of love and affection. But there are responsibilities of the owner to train the puppy to become obedient. If the puppy is not obedient then it means that the person training it has not worked properly.

When the puppies are trained by the professionals, they are always taken care of nicely. The professional trainers know their job and they know how to make the puppy obedient. The real problems arise when a puppy is being trained at home. The people do not know much about dog training and they want the results to come quickly. The do not stick to the routine and this badly affects their dogs. The dogs would never become obedient if a proper routine is not followed and the dogs are not well trained. Also remember that treating a dog harshly will not make him obedient and the problems will keep on mounting. The best way is to understand your dog and to treat him with affection.

The foremost important thing is to build a relationship with the dog. This relationship will allow you to understand the dog and at the same time the dog will be able to understand you. He will be following your commands and will be happier to get the rewards from you.

An important thing to make the puppies obedient is to make sure that you make the things clear to them. If your own behavior with the dog is not consistent, then you can not expect him to remain obedient. Always reward him for his good behavior and always discourage his unacceptable behavior. If the dog likes the reward, he would love to get it again and will then do the things the way you want him to do.

An important thing which you should not miss is to teach the dog to follow your commands. You can teach him to sit on the ‘sit’ command and jump on the ‘jump’ command. There are many more. These things will add to the obedience of the dog. He will start following your commands and will ultimately become more obedient.

Also make sure that the dog knows that you are the master and leader. He should be clear about it. If he knows this, then he will understand that he will have to hear to you and do what you want him to do. Teach him to listen and obey you and with the time the dog will become obedient.

If you are training a dog at home for the first time, then prefer getting a puppy instead of a grown up dog. It is easy to train the puppies as they have more to learn. Their learning abilities are better and they are more eager to listen to you. They will not have to change their habits and they will only be learning the things for the fist time. With the grown up dogs, it can become really tiring at times to train them things which they were trained to do differently.

Remember that dog training may seem easy at first, but it requires consistency and determination.
