The companionship that pets offer is without parallel. Especially if start with a young one, marking each change is like watching a child grow. For the same reason, it is good to gift pets to children so that they can also understand growth and development. Also, they learn empathy and behaviors that encourage nurturing and caring. Children generally tend to be self-serving. The arrival of a pet makes them look outside their own little world and they take up the pet’s responsibilities. Soon enough, they include the animal in their world. Similarly, they become close friends because they are non-judgmental and this is particularly helpful when kids hit their teens and become insecure and unsure of themselves.

Humans tend to be rather awkward in society. Social interactions do not come easily to many and often they relegated to being wallflowers. Pets form fantastic conversation openers. Another fact from history is that US war pilots, traumatized from their experiences were sent to farms where nurturing farm animals was believed to heal them.

Also, a pet is good for people who tend to be messy and disorganized. Since pets depend on their owners for their every need; be it walks, cleaning, food, or just company, the owner cannot neglect the pet. He/she has to from some sort of structure and schedule wherein the pet is properly taken care of.

It is a known fact that a large population confides to their pets and they act like therapy for them. Speaking to someone they can trust and know that the secret would never be leaked out.

Eventually pets become like extended family and close emotional bonds are formed with them. This pleasure of having them around is the biggest benefit one can gain from them.
